Nicolo Barella and Florentino Luis among midfielders wanted by Liverpool

Liverpool eye Inter Milan’s Nicolo Barella and Benfica starlet Florentino Luis

The Reds have a big transfer radar as Liverpool eye Inter Milan’s Nicolo Barella and Benfica prodigy Florentino Luis.

That is as per Melissa Reddy of Sky Sports via Twitter. Both Barella and Florentino have found themselves on Liverpool’s radar

previously as well, and now with the uncertain futures of Fabinho and Jordan Henderson, it seems that a move could come through.

“Lavia and Gravenberch have long been considered by LFC (regardless of current situation), with their reps spoken to. Other players they’ve looked at: Nicolo Barella, Khephren Thuram, Florentino Luis, Joao Palhinha, Teun Koopmeiners… They do love a surprise, stealth signing”

Both players were instrumental in their respective sides’ great campaigns in the last season. Inter came all the way to the finals of the UEFA Champions League and finished runners-up to Manchester City as Barella was instrumental in their league finish of third as well. Benfica won their league, with Florentino pulling the strings in the midfield.

To think of it, irrespective of the uncertainties that lie in the Reds’ midfield, it makes absolute sense for Jurgen Klopp and Co. to dip into the market and actively pursue a midfielder or two. While our current summer signings are great and all, we surely need more.

Barella and Luis to the Reds?

While both players offer a great deal of versatility, Barella offers more in terms of tangible output that is goals and assists. Florentino on the other hand, does the “dirty work” and given he offers decent versatility as he can play advanced roles, the 23-year-old is best as a pure defensive midfielder.

While there are a number of other players on Reddy’s list as well, the focus tends to go on these two options as they probably suit the Reds’ requirements better than any other player. We got on board Alexis Mac Allister

and Dominik Szoboszlai to negate the creativity factor and we need a workhorse. There’s already enough on the likes of Khephren Thuram in the domain, hence, it was better to bring attention to Barella and Florentino.

Both players could almost immediately make a strong case for themselves in the Liverpool XI. The Reds need freshening up in the midfield. They share very similar characteristics, and from a football point of view, having one of these two would be better than having two players who play the exact same role in the club.

More Liverpool News

Hopefully, as the transfer window progresses, we have more clarity on what the Reds could do heading into the new season. Unlike other campaigns, there is a greater sense of excitement this time around as Liverpool have made a number of tactical changes and it would be interesting to see what the Reds will do moving forward.
