Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony wants Liverpool to sign Ronnie Edwards
League One side Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony is a long-serving fan of Liverpool Football Club. He says that defensive talent Ronnie Edwards, who plays centre-back for the Posh is a player for the Premier League.
Moreover, to add to his words, he also mentioned how he is surprised as to why Liverpool have not made a move for the 20-year-old defender who was previously at Barnet. MacAnthony, speaking to theposh.com via ECHO said this:
“That winds me up by the way, that Liverpool haven’t bought him yet because he’s just made for some of the teams in the Prem.”
While there are surely very few who deny the abilities of a professional footballer if Liverpool wanted a player, the chairman of that club would probably know. As he mentioned, MacAnthony is a Liverpool fan and would have the best interests of the Reds at heart. But there are plenty of fans who want a certain player to join the club, but things have to go strategically.
The chairman’s recommendation should be taken with a grain of salt, but it does highlight the potential of Edwards. The young defender’s performances for England’s Under-20s have been eye-catching. His passing ability and tackling in moments of pressure are certainly at a very good level.
Edwards to the Reds?
While MacAnthony’s recommendation of Ronnie Edwards may be viewed with some scepticism, it does not diminish the potential for Liverpool to identify and secure promising young talents to bolster their squad.
The Reds have a proven track record of developing young players and providing them with opportunities to shine on the big stage and if the player aligns with the club’s style of play, Liverpool will most likely make a move for the player.
While Ronnie Edwards’ name has been brought to attention, only time will tell whether Liverpool will pursue the young defender based on their own assessments and evaluations.
