Thomas Tuchel claims Sadio Mane “fell short short of expectations after leaving Liverpool for Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich boss Thomas Tuchel claims that Sadio Mane “fell short of expectations” after leaving Liverpool for Bayern Munich last summer.

The German champions signed the Senegal international from the Reds for a fee of up to £35m last summer. He left Anfield after winning every possible trophy in club football here.

Mane had an underwhelming first season in Germany. A serious injury just before the World Cup did not help his cause. The fight with Leroy Sane after the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final tie against Manchester City tarnished his reputation to an extent as well.

Here’s what Tuchel about the former Reds superstar (h/t Sport1, via Daily Mail):

“He fell short of expectations. The competitive situation is extremely high, the starting position is not easy for him. The player knows that too, he knows my opinion and the opinion of the club.”

The 31-year-old played just over 2000 minutes in all competitions last season, scoring 12 goals and assisting six. It was below what was expected from him after making a high-profile move from Liverpool to Bayern.

It remains to be seen whether Tuchel will keep him for the coming season or sell him this summer. A few days ago, it was revealed in the Daily Mail that Bayern may let him go now.

For a player who was decorated and much loved at Liverpool, it is sad to see him struggling at his new club. The best for him would be to leave the German champions this summer and hope to find a club that backs him to do well.

As Liverpool fans, we know that Mane is a player whose form centres around confidence. If the manager and the club have confidence in him, he will do anything for them and win games of football for the team. Jurgen Klopp gave him that at Anfield.

That may not happen with him at Bayern. Let’s wish him the best for what is to come. Regardless of what happens, the 31-year-old will forever be a Liverpool legend.
