Wimbledon men’s doubles champion and avid Liverpool fan Neal Skupski wants a trophy parade at Anfield
Neal Skupski, the Wimbledon men’s doubles champion and devoted Liverpool fan, expressed his eagerness to showcase his newly won trophy at Anfield. Skupski, alongside his partner Wesley Koolhof, secured victory in the men’s doubles competition on Saturday, marking Skupski’s third consecutive Wimbledon title win as they won 6-4, 6-4 against the Argentine-Spaniard duo of Horacio Zeballos and Marcel Granollers.
Speaking of Skupski, the Scouser spoke of a trophy parade at Anfield and here is what the 33-year-old had to say via the Daily Mail:
‘I’d love to step out at Anfield and show all the local fans the trophy, especially in front of the new stand that has been built,’
As an avid Liverpool supporter, Skupski’s desire to parade his Wimbledon trophy at Anfield is a testament to the strong connection between sports and fandom. Many celebrities and notable figures are known to be ardent fans of Liverpool, including actors Daniel Craig and Samuel L. Jackson, as well as musicians Sir Paul McCartney and John Bishop. Retired women’s Tennis player Caroline Wozniacki is also a fan of the Reds.
The enthusiasm and passion of these high-profile supporters further underline the club’s widespread appeal and global reach. While it is heartwarming to see Skupski’s desire to share his Wimbledon triumph with fellow Liverpool fans, it also sheds light on a rather funny irony.
Skupski’s Anfield Parade
As we hopefully get to witness Skupski’s parade at Anfield, Liverpool has yet to celebrate and parade the 2019/20 Premier League trophy at Anfield with fans. Due to the unfortunate circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, the traditional trophy parade was not possible at the time.
In the meantime, as Neal Skupski basks in the glory of his Wimbledon victory, Liverpool fans can appreciate the dedication and passion shared by fellow supporters who have achieved success in their respective fields. And more so for Scousers, who’ve grown up supporting the club from extremely close quarters.
As Skupski rightly pointed out, the increased capacity of the Anfield Road stand would mean more fans creating a much more enjoyable atmosphere at the club. Hopefully, he gets to share his victory in the city he grew up in and bring the city together for reasons apart from football. The 33-year-old is good friends with Jurgen Klopp as well. They had to play squash together before the Liverpool boss cancelled out the reservation after he pulled his hamstring in the game against Spurs.
