Liverpool midfielder Fabinho has agreed a deal with Saudi side Al-Ittihad
As per a tweet from Brazilian sports outlet GE Globo, Liverpool midfielder and Brazil international Fabinho has agreed a deal with Saudi Arabia club Al-Ittihad ahead of the move this summer.
That tweet also confirmed that the midfielder will be leaving Liverpool after a five-year stay at Anfield. With this news coming from a source of the player’s native country, one would think that this has substance in it.
A few days ago, out of nowhere, Al-Ittihad registered an interest in signing Fabinho. Sky Sports revealed that the Reds allowed the midfielder to stay at Liverpool rather than accompanying the squad for the pre-season camp in Germany to complete his move to Saudi Arabia.
Al-Ittihad have signed N’Golo Kante this summer. It makes no sense for them to sign another defensive midfielder this summer. But, who are we to question the weird deals clubs from that part of the middle east are making?
If this is the end of Fabinho at Liverpool, his time at the club will be remembered for the key role he played in helping Jurgen Klopp’s men win all the club trophies possible.
The former Monaco star was the one-man lighthouse in defensive midfield. While it would be sad to see him leave, one can understand why Liverpool and Klopp have agreed on this transfer.
In the last season and a bit, Fabinho’s form took a major dip. The sad part of that was him not able to show any signs of getting back his best version in that period of time.

So, instead of keeping a soon-to-be 30-year-old midfielder who may not play his best football again, the club can sell him for a whopping £40m and use that money to sign a younger replacement. It is perhaps one season too soon, but at least it is happening early on in the summer window, giving us ample time to potentially replace the 29-year-old.
