Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones to join the Liverpool pre-season camp on Thursday

As per the Official Liverpool website, young midfielders Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones will join the Liverpool pre-season camp in Germany on Thursday.

Jones and Elliott were part of the England U21 side that lifted the U21 European Championship a few days ago. The former was named in the tournament’s best XI as he continued his great form after finishing the last season with the Reds on a high.

Both players should join the squad with a spring in their steps not just because they are coming after winning an international tournament, but also because there might be more game time available for them in the coming season.

After three departures in midfield for free earlier in the summer, there might be more outgoings in that department in the coming days. Fabinho is all but set to join Al-Ittihad while captain Jordan Henderson could be on his way to Al-Ettifaq.

Now, irrespective of what Liverpool do in the market to replace the senior duo, there is a door open for Jones and Elliott to stake their claim for regular game time next season.

There could be a situation where Jurgen Klopp plays new signing Alexis Mac Allister in defensive midfield, opening up a slot in one of the number eight positions.

Having particularly seen Jones do well as a left-sided midfielder in the new hybrid system in the latter half of last season, he could be a starter when the proper season starts in the second week of August.

Everything is currently in favour of the 22-year-old. He is in a perfect age and good form to grab his place in the team and never leave it.

For Elliott, with Europa League football next season, he should expect game time in that competition at the least.
