Arthur Melo signed for Liverpool in the closing stages of the 2022 summer transfer window following an injury to Jordan Henderson.
The Reds needed a new midfielder for depth, and Arthur was seen as a short-term solution. We paid a €4.5million loan fee to Juventus and the deal had a buy-option for €37.5 million.
That in itself showed that we trusted him to do well here. He was struggling to get any meaningful playing time at Juventus and a move to Merseyside was seen as a chance to resurrect his career.
But it didn’t happen. He ended up making just one senior appearance for us, where he played 13 minutes. Ironically, his time here was hampered by injuries — the problem he was brought here to solve.
Needless to say, Liverpool didn’t exercise the buy option. He has now found a new home. The Brazilian will play the season at Fiorentina on loan from Juventus, as per Liverpool Echo.
La Viola have also announced his official arrival at the club. We wish nothing but the best for the 26-year-old who would be desperate to get his career back on track.
But it was clear he wasn’t the solution for us. We didn’t see how he would adapt to the English game and if he could be trusted to stay fit for the majority of the time.
Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister’s arrivals have done us good. But there is no way we can end this window without a new midfielder.
