Chelsea plan ‘full-scale’ hijack to sign Liverpool midfield target

Chelsea plan ‘full-scale’ hijack to sign Liverpool midfield target Romeo Lavia

Romeo Lavia has attracted attention from both Chelsea and Liverpool in recent weeks as his future at Southampton hangs in the balance.

Southampton’s relegation from the Premier League last season makes it almost certain that a player of Lavia’s ilk will depart. This is despite the fact that he just signed for the Saints from Manchester City last summer.

Fabrizio Romano has stated that Chelsea retain interest in the 19-year-old Belgium international while Liverpool are further ahead in the race due to them formalising their interest in the form of offers.

But Football Insider now claim that Chelsea are planning a full-scale hijack to sign Lavia ahead of the Reds. They are apparently willing to offer more than Liverpool for the £50million-rated defensive midfielder.

Liverpool must hurry

Chelsea’s failure to sign Moises Caicedo from Brighton & Hove Albion despite an £80million offer is said to be a major reason behind them shifting their attention.

Liverpool have apparently submitted a bid of £45million for Lavia. Hopefully, this is enough to get the deal done. The Reds can’t be blamed for trying to negotiate a lower price.

Liverpool’s new signing Alexis Mac Allister has added some depth back to their midfield.

What Southampton, a relegated club, are asking for Lavia is quite high and it must be remembered that the Belgian can only boast just one full Premier League season under his belt. Perhaps they smell our desperation, even more so after Jordan Henderson’s exit.

Chelsea’s need for a midfielder is also pretty clear and evident, considering they have sold high-profile players in that position this summer. And that is why we must be ready with another offer if the Saints turn down our latest bid.
