Barcelona star Franck Kessie inches closer to Saudi move amid Liverpool links

Liverpool target Franck Kessie is close to securing an exit from Barcelona to the Saudi Pro League with Al Ahli very interested in his services.

The Saudi League, ever since the transfer of Cristiano Ronaldo earlier this year in January has been gaining a lot of traction. Former Liverpool stars Jordan Henderson, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane also find themselves in Saudi. Other notable former Premier League stars in that league include Eduardo Mendy, Riyad Mahrez and Ruben Neves among others.

The term “slim midfield depth” would be an understatement at Anfield. The departure of several key players during the transfer window has left the midfield resources threadbare. This exodus has created a void that is becoming increasingly difficult to ignore.

No Kessie for the Reds

The departure of experienced heads has paved the way for emerging talents, but experience is a commodity that can’t be undervalued, especially in the thick of top-flight competitions in Europe.

The anticipation of a new season often carries with it the excitement of fresh faces donning the club’s colours. This season, however, seems to be a mixed bag for Liverpool. While there have been additions, two midfielders representing the idea of a ‘rebuild’ somewhat doesn’t sit right.

Given that there’s not a lot of time to go for the season to begin in full flow, the only option Liverpool have at hand is to look towards the academy. It is extremely tough to understand why the Reds already do not have replacements in place for all the midfielders who left the club. However, there is only so much we could do about it.
