Liverpool make yet another offer for 19-year-old midfielder

Liverpool have lodged a fourth bid for Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia moments after the third offer was rejected

As per a tweet from Ben Jacobs of CBS Sports, Liverpool have already made an improved offer for Romeo Lavia moments after Southampton rejected the third bid.

Earlier in the day, Paul Joyce of The Times (subscription required) revealed that a third bid worth £45m inclusive of add-ons was immediately rejected by the Championship side. They are demanding something over £50m to sell the Belgian international.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp

really likes the player and wants this move to happen as the Reds are without an out-and-out defensive midfielder at the moment. Stefan Bajcetic has played there but he is too young and has not trained throughout the pre-season following the recovery from a stress injury.

Here is the text version of what Jacobs tweeted:

“Understand Liverpool have already made another improved offer for Romeo Lavia after Southampton rejected their last £46m bid.”

In whichever way we spin this, Liverpool’s pursuit of signing Lavia

(19( has been nothing short of embarrassing. Club legend Jamie Carragher tweeted about how messed this all feels when Southampton rejected the third bid.

It is good to know that the club are adamant about getting their target and have lodged the fourth offer. If anything, the final pre-season game against a promoted German side Darmstadt showed where this team lacks heavily.

If and when the Lavia saga gets done with, Liverpool must start to focus on signing a centre-back too. We saw how slow and easy Joel Matip is to play against while Andrew Robertson cannot play as a left-sided centre-back if the Trent Alexander-Arnold hybrid system continues.

With just over three weeks remaining in this window, the club has to start fastening up the process. The dragging of the Lavia deal because they are eager to penny-pinch and act smart has not helped the cause.
