Dimitar Berbatov does not include Liverpool in his top-four prediction

Former Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov has shared his perspective on Liverpool FC’s chances in the upcoming Premier League season, and it’s not positive.

Speaking to Betfair via ECHO, the Bulgarian football icon expressed his doubts about Liverpool’s top-four prospects. Here is what he said:

“The competition for the top four is the reason why the Premier League is so great to watch. Teams like Aston Villa, Newcastle, Brighton and Tottenham can compete for it. Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea will be in the top four.”

“If Manchester United don’t make the top four, then it’s a terrible season. I think Arsenal will get the top four too, they need to push for the title and not settle for second place as they did last season. I’m not including Liverpool, Tottenham or Newcastle.”

Berbatov’s opinion adds an interesting layer to the already competitive nature of the Premier League. He believes that the race for the top four is what makes the league thrilling, with surprise contenders like Aston Villa, Newcastle, Brighton, and Tottenham [lol] vying for those coveted spots. Notably, he doesn’t include Liverpool in his list of top-four contenders. This has raised eyebrows and led to conversations about Liverpool’s current state and their aspirations for the upcoming season.

Liverpool finished fifth in the league last season, a significant dip from their usual top-tier placements. Berbatov’s exclusion of them from the top four could be seen as a reflection of this recent performance. However, Liverpool fans shouldn’t lose heart just yet.

Jurgen Klopp and the Liverpool hierarchy are well aware of the need to strengthen their squad. The disappointment of last season’s finish has likely fueled their determination to make necessary additions. With the right signings, Liverpool can bolster their chances of breaking back into the top four.

As the transfer window continues, Liverpool’s pursuit of new talent becomes even more crucial. We have signed only two players in the window so far, and the urgency to get on board more signings has kicked in already. Two or three more impactful signings could be the catalyst that propels Liverpool’s resurgence and enables them to challenge the top teams once again.

Ultimately, Berbatov’s perspective is a reminder that predictions are just that – predictions. The beauty of football lies in its unpredictability.

The quest for a top-four finish is within Liverpool’s control, and the team’s response to challenges will define their path in the Premier League.

The thing is, we shouldn’t be a team that sees the top four as a trophy. Maybe we did for a huge chunk of time in 2010s, but that was a depressing era in this club’s glorious history. The aim should be to win things.
