Jurgen Klopp spoke to Thiago Alcantara about Liverpool role next season
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has spoken with Thiago Alcantara regarding his role in the team in the upcoming campaign for the Reds.
The German hinted at the Spain international remaining at the Anfield side in the ongoing transfer window. This summer, the midfielder has been linked with a move away from the Merseyside outfit.
Saudi Arabian team Al-Ahli are interested in Thiago and are set to offer the Red £10.3 million for the 32-year-old. However, speaking to the media via Liverpool Echo, the German head coach revealed that the midfielder will be a key player for Liverpool this season.
“He came in and asked about his role and we spoke. Super experienced player, he stepped up in that department. He has only been in team training for a week but very vocal, he is going to be very helpful for us.”
This summer, the Reds have already seen a massive exodus from their engine room. The Anfield side lost James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade Chamberlain after their contracts expired at the end of June.
Subsequently, the Merseyside outfit have seen team in the Saudi Pro League take Jordan Henderson and Fabinho. As a result, a key part of Klopp’s team’s success over the years is no longer at the club.
Thiago is one of the few remaining experienced heads in Liverpool’s squad now. The Spaniard has showcased his class at the Anfield side with some impressive displays.
Unfortunately, the midfielder has not been a reliable player. His injury issues at the Merseyside outfit have been frustrating. Last season, the former Bayern Munich and Barcelona star made just 28 appearances in all competitions for us.
Liverpool have added Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai to their ranks for now. Other options in our engine room include Stefan Bajcetic, Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones.

As things stand, we already seem to lack enough depth in the middle of the park. Therefore, it seems wise to keep a hold of Thiago even if he will not be the first choice next season.
