Liverpool and PSG among teams monitoring 25-year-old African star

Liverpool monitoring PSV star Ibrahim Sangare

Liverpool show interest in securing the services of PSV Eindhoven midfielder Ibrahim Sangare. The 25-year-old Ivorian international is primarily a defensive midfielder, capable of playing in central midfield as well.

That is according to Kiki Musampa, whose brother is Sangare‘s agent. The revelation comes along as Chelsea drew the Reds to a 1-1 draw wherein our requirements in midfield were clear as daylight. Nevertheless, here is what Musampa told ESPN via ECHO:

“There are big clubs that are interested, such as Bayern Munich. Ibrahim is also on the list at Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool, but he is not yet a priority there. Nottingham Forest had already made an offer, but that was not enough.”

While Sangare’s name might be new to some, his potential impact is undeniable. At Liverpool, the situation is such that 41-year-old Xabi Alonso could still give the other midfielders at the club a decent run for their money. Nottingham Forest previously harboured interest in the former Toulouse man. However, their efforts were stymied by the financial demands of PSV.

The same report also suggests that Sangare boasts a release clause worth €37.5 million (£32 million) in his 2027 expiring contract at the Eredivisie giants. [Transfermarkt]

The absence of both Fabinho and Jordan Henderson was deeply felt, leaving a void that was all too evident on the field against Chelsea. As the transfer deadline looms, the urgency to address this crucial gap becomes increasingly paramount.

His ability to break up opposition attacks, intercept passes, and dictate the tempo of the game was sorely missed. Similarly, the leadership and organizational skills of Henderson were clearly visible in their absence, leaving a gap in our midfield that opponents were quick to exploit even though our defenders were, pretty much solid.

The challenges we faced in our season opener underscored the importance of having a player who can shield our defence, break up opposition attacks, and provide a platform for our attacking endeavours.
