Liverpool ‘ready to make Matheus Nunes approach’
Liverpool are gearing up to make a move for Wolves’ midfielder, Matheus Nunes. This potential manoeuvre comes on the heels of the Reds’ recent disappointments in the transfer market, having missed out on Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia.
That’s according to Anfield Watch via ECHO. The Anfield faithful can’t help but ponder whether Nunes might be the missing piece to strengthen the midfield puzzle. Last summer, he made a choice that surprised many – a decision to join the ranks of Wolves over embracing the storied legacy of Anfield and that is mainly due to his super agent Jorge Mendes who believed that a move to the West Midlands then was best for his career.
In the aftermath of Fabinho’s departure to Saudi Arabia, the absence of a key presence in midfield was glaringly evident in the recent clash against Chelsea. The Reds found themselves grappling in the middle of the park as their midfield depth was alarmingly thin. This has obviously, prompted Liverpool to explore alternatives like Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall of Leicester City, in addition to the pursuit of Nunes.
The comparison to Fabinho’s role is striking, and it’s clear that Liverpool is on the hunt for a player who can seamlessly step into those substantial shoes. A robust midfielder capable of orchestrating play, providing a shield to the defence, and facilitating transitions has become a necessity for Jurgen Klopp’s tactical masterplan. While Fabinho’s contributions were immeasurable, the quest to find his successor is now in motion.
Nunes to the Reds finally?
Nunes, with his ability to contribute to the defence greatly along with his versatility to fit in almost any midfield role, makes him a smart target for the Reds to eye.
Versatility is one of Nunes’ main strengths and if could play the kind of role Fabinho did, the Reds need not look any further.
The player, prior to his move to Wolverhampton was on the Reds’ radar and the recruitment team surely know him in and out. Hence, if they believe and Jurgen Klopp believes that the former Sporting midfielder could certainly stand as the right fit for Liverpool, he might as well be.

Nunes could be the missing piece in Liverpool’s puzzle. He is a highly talented midfielder who could provide a lot of creativity and energy to Liverpool’s midfield which at the moment, we more or less, lack. At 24, there is a whole lot of football in him and could be a great asset for the Reds in the long term as well.
