As revealed by Kiki Musampa, brother of the player’s agent (quoted by Daily Mail), Liverpool are among the clubs in Europe that are interested in signing PSV Eindhoven midfielder Ibrahima Sangare.

It is also reported that the Ivorian has a release clause of £32m in his contract which can be triggered by anyone interested. Although the Reds want him, they face competition from German champions Bayern Munich and French champions Paris-Saint Germain.

Earlier in this window, Nottingham Forest made a bid to follow up on their long-standing interest in the midfielder. But, Musampa clears up that the offer made by them was not enough for the Dutch side to accept.

Sangare is an all-action midfielder who can play as a lone number six, in a midfield pivot or as a wide midfielder. He began his European career at Toulouse before moving to PSV in 2020. The 25-year-old is a ball-winning midfielder who is aerially and physically strong and does have an eye for a goal or two.

Although not the most perfect of options, Liverpool cannot be picky now. They have lost out on Moises Caicedo and the other target Romeo Lavia is preferring a move to Chelsea as well.

After seeing how open the Reds were in the defensive midfield, they need a body in that department sooner rather than later.

Sangare has limitations to his game (lack of pace and intensity off the ball), but he would be a better option to anyone in the current Liverpool squad for that number six slot.
