Real Madrid are not interested in selling long-term Liverpool target Aurelien Tchouameni

As per the transfer update from David Ornstein for The Athletic (subscription required), Liverpool are among the clubs who have had a long-term interest in Aurelien Tchouameni but Real Madrid won’t sell the Frenchman.

Los Blancos consider the former Monaco midfielder as an important member of the squad. Moreover, the 23-year-old is not interested in leaving the Spanish capital as well.

Liverpool did a lot of work in signing Tchouameni last summer, but the player chose to play for Carlo Ancelotti’s team. 12 months on, the Reds are in a worse position compared to last July. Hence, trying to sign a player who has already rejected them not long ago makes no sense.

But, that is how the club have functioned in this transfer window so far. They wanted to sign Romeo Lavia from Southampton but had three rejected bids as the willingness to meet the £50m price tag was not there. The 19-year-old wanted to come at the time.

After that, they made an ambitious £111m bid to acquire the services of Moises Caicedo. The Ecuadorian rejected them in favour of a move to Chelsea. Now, when a £60m deal for Lavia was agreed with Southampton, the player has got his head turned towards a move to Chelsea as well.

Keeping all that in mind and knowing that the team is playing Europa League football this season, the attraction towards playing for Liverpool must have gone down to a considerable extent this summer.

So, all this renewed talk of signing Tchouameni was laughable really. Liverpool must become serious now and start approaching players who still want to play for the club and Jurgen Klopp.

Less than three weeks remain before the transfer window is shut. At the least, this team needs a defensive midfielder and a centre-back. It does seem all doom and gloom at the moment!
