Liverpool rekindle their interest in Bundesliga ace with Manchester United also keen

Liverpool rekindle interest in Ryan Gravenberch amidst competition from Manchester United

As per a tweet from French journalist Santi Aouna, Liverpool have rekindled their interest in Bayern Munich midfielder Ryan Gravenberch who is also on Manchester United radar.

It was back in April when it was revealed in The Times (subscription required) that the Reds have stepped up their attempts to sign the Dutch midfielder.

Since then, we have not seen much and the club took a different route in solving the midfield issues. They signed Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai to add substance to the number eight positions.

But, the search for a number six or a multi-positioned midfielder continues. Here’s the text version of what Santi tweeted:

◉ Liverpool have reactivated their pursuit of Ryan Gravenberch this week. The player is open to a move to England. Talks ongoing with his entourage.

◉ The Bayern midfielder is still on Manchester United’s list, although no offer has yet been made.

After trying to sign Romeo Lavia and Moises Caicedo and eventually losing out to Chelsea for both of them, Liverpool are back to square one in their search for a defensive midfielder.

The transfer window shuts in the next 14 days and there are palpitations among the fans, and rightly so. Earlier in the day, Miguel Delaney reported that the club stepped up their efforts to sign Crystal Palace midfielder Cheick Doucoure.

While that is encouraging news, Liverpool need another player there before the deadline. Gravenberch, who has had a tough time at Bayern since signing for them from Ajax last summer, is a versatile player who can play both as a lone defensive midfielder and a box-to-box midfielder.

The Dutchman is technically solid and has the physique to win aerial duels and be strong in ground duels too. Let’s not judge a young player’s (21 years old) career by one season where he was not played much by Bayern managers. It is not as if the German champions were playing all that well without him.

If the price is right, Liverpool should test the waters and sign Gravenberch. The interest from Manchester United means that they have to conclude very soon.
