Liverpool admire Aston Villa midfielder Boubacar Kamara as one of the options to sign this summer
According to The Athletic (subscription required), Liverpool admire Aston Villa midfielder Boubacar Kamara as one of the options they could sign during this summer window.
The Reds are in the market for a defensive midfielder after losing out on Romeo Lavia and Moises Caicedo to Chelsea in the last few days.
They have just agreed a fee with Stuttgart to sign Wataru Endo. The Japan international is a 30-year-old defensive midfielder who has operated as a centre-back before.
Incidentally, Kamara, who is on the list of players the club could target to sign in the coming days, has a similar profile to Endo.
The 23-year-old started out as a youth player in Marseille before making his senior debut there at the age of 17.
As alluded to above, he has played as a defensive midfielder and a centre-back before. In fact, at Marseille, he was used as a fullback on either side as well.
Upon his arrival at Villa last summer, Kamara instantly showed how good he is not off the ball but also on it.
The only issue could be that he missed 15 games due to injuries last season. Whether that was just a coincidence or did he have issues physically dealing with the Premier League, we do not know. His doctors would be able to give us better insight on that.
Let’s note that as per the Independent, Liverpool are stepping up their efforts to sign Cheick Doucoure from Crystal Palace.
If there is a direct choice between Doucoure and Kamara, the former has more upside to his game and could be a game-changer for the Reds.
