Curtis Jones to miss the game against Bournemouth due to an ankle issue

According to James Pearce for The Athletic (subscription required), Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones is set to miss the game against Bournemouth due to an issue with his ankle.

The England U21 international only came off the bench for the final few minutes against Chelsea last weekend and did a decent job.

For the last pre-season game against Darmstadt, the 22-year-old did not feature from the start and Jurgen Klopp confirmed that he felt something, although the injury was not serious at the time.

However, this one is completely different because Jones twisted his ankle while in training during the week. It is revealed that he will be back in contention for the squad come the game against Newcastle United next Sunday.

With Thiago Alcantara and Stefan Bajcetic still not ready, Klopp will go into the Bournemouth game with a depleted midfield.

The German would hope that new signing Wataru Endo is granted the work permit to take part in this match in some capacity.

If the Japanese international is eligible to play, it won’t be a surprise to see him starting on Saturday. It would liberate Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai to play higher up and feed the front men with defence-splitting passes for scoring goals.

Coming back to Jones, this is an important season for him. He is 22 now and should strive to be one of the first names on the team sheet every week.

If we look at the numbers, the midfielder has missed 26 games since the start of the 2021/22 season due to injuries. As talented as he is, his availability needs to improve before expecting to become a regular member of the playing XI.
