According to Football Transfers (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool are joined by RB Leipzig and West Ham United in showing interest in Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie.
It is claimed that the Reds are in the market for a left-footed centre-back in this summer window. French outlet Get French Football News reported the Reds’ interest in Rennes defender Arthur Theate. Fulham are also keeping an eye on the Belgian international.
Coming back to Hincapie, it is revealed that Leverkusen could demand something in the region of €45m
to sell the Ecuador international.The 21-year-old can play as a left-sided centre-back, as a left-back in a back four and a left wing-back in a back five.
The only caveat to all this is that he is represented under the same agency as fellow countryman Moises Caicedo.
That cannot be good news if Liverpool are seriously exploring a deal to sign the defender. We know how the agents took advantage of the Reds’ vulnerable position in the market to make sure Chelsea increased their bid for Caicedo.
So, as promising a player as Hincapie is, it would be like putting your hand in the fire by dealing with his agents.
Hence, the club can look past this opportunity and continue to explore the market of players who are either left-footed centre-backs or can play as a left-sided centre-back.
As mentioned in the article above, Theate could be a good option. The Belgian is 23 and is entering the peak stage of his career. Let’s hope Liverpool are looking at that possibility before the end of this window.
Time is running out though. The club should start acting soon rather than leaving things till the deadline day when it becomes more of a scramble.
