“One for the ages”- Alexander-Arnold hails Liverpool FC’s ‘hard fought’ win over Newcastle United

Liverpool vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold talks about the win vs Newcastle United

In a game wherein he had to don the captain’s armband for an extended spell due to the sending-off of first-choice skipper Virgil van Dijk, Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold apart from his one obvious error that led to a goal, was under constant pressure from a strong Newcastle side.

Having said that, Liverpool’s triumph over Newcastle United was more than just a victory; it was an exhilarating display of resilience, teamwork, and sheer determination. As the dust settled on a remarkable match, Trent

spoke to Sky Sports and here is what he had to say:

“It was unbelievable, something very special. You come here with a game-plan, dictate the play and kill the atmosphere as that’s an advantage for them. But we had to do it the hard way, a very hard way. We dug deep and pulled together. A performance for the ages, one of our best performances. There was some outstanding performances.”

The context of the game, with Liverpool down to 10 men following Virgil van Dijk’s red card, only added to the drama and intensity of the encounter. The right-back delved into the intricacies of Liverpool’s strategy, highlighting their aim to dictate the pace of the game and neutralize the home team’s advantage.

Trent himself was under a lot of pressure in the game. Up front against a fellow scouser in Anthony Gordon, the Reds’ deputy skipper did not have it easy. A yellow card in the early phases of the game meant Trent held himself from going into tackles, and that showed in how effective Newcastle were down Trent’s side. However, we are Liverpool. In the face of adversity, the players showed a lot of character and got the three points.

Three Points, and we move.

Joe Gomez put in an absolute shift coming on for Luis Diaz after Virgil’s red card. Even though there were periods wherein Newcastle enjoyed possession and threatened the Reds, the likes of Dominik Szoboszlai, and Diogo Jota when he came on, even Alexis Mac Allister did the job for the Reds.

This game is far from perfect though. While it is good that we got the three points, there are pressing issues that will again come to the fore when people sleep on this. The lack of depth in our midfield and defence was somehow skewed out by our world-class attacking depth, but this will not happen all the time.

While there are some issues, the boys have got their hard-earned win and it is better if we cut them some slack. All in all, Trent and his words encapsulated the magic of the sport – a fusion of skill, dedication, and an unbreakable bond between players and fans.
