Jesse Marsch tells Liverpool that Dominik Szoboszlai is ‘destined for greatness’

Former Leeds United manager Jesse Marsch knows most things about new Liverpool signing Dominik Szoboszlai better than the rest. After all, during Szobo’s time in Germany, Marsch was his manager for the better part of his time at both, RB Leipzig and RB Salzburg. The American believes that the Reds have got for themselves, ‘a steal’ at £60m.

Szoboszlai, the Reds’ second summer signing, joined the Reds in the early weeks of July after Liverpool triggered the £60m clause in his contract. Speaking of which, Marsch had to say that Jurgen Klopp and Co. got a quality addition to their side, for less than what he’s worth. Here is what he told the Telegraph [subscription required]

“Liverpool got a steal at £60 million. Szobo has an elegance and technical ability to go with a physical package which make him unique. There are not many players with his physical stature who can run as he can with the intelligence.”

Also calling him a modern-day David Beckham, Marsch showered the highest of all praise possible on the 22-year-old Hungarian. And evidently, in both our league games so far, Szobo was arguably one of the best players on the pitch for either side.

From a Liverpool perspective, having a player like Szoboszlai is positive in multiple facets. His versatility makes him one of the best in the world. He can play anywhere across the midfield, with his best attributes coming as either an 8 or a 10.

Szobo for the Reds

We all know that versatility is something that is of utmost importance in any Jurgen Klopp side. Although it is still early doors in his Liverpool career, he has previously shown signs of greatness during his time in the Bundesliga, and we can only hope for him to replicate that form here.

All we need to do as fans is give him the time he needs to settle down in a totally new country and league. Our midfield already looks better, and with time, there shall come so much more to look forward to.

The Reds face Newcastle next away from home in what could prove to be the most difficult game of our opening three. Hopefully, Szoboszlai can get his name on the scoresheet and walk back into the tunnel at St. James Park a happy man.

Too early to call it, and hope it is not a jinx, Szoboszlai could surely prove to be worth the number on his back. Not much to add to it though, all hope.
