Jurgen Klopp talks about the late Andy Robertson goal for Liverpool against Wolves

Liverpool secured a dramatic 3-1 victory away at Wolves in a thrilling encounter that saw the Reds leave it late to snatch all three points where Andy Robertson emerged as an unlikely goalscoring hero, netting the second goal in the 85th minute. It followed an earlier equalizer by Cody Gakpo, which cancelled out Hwang Hee Chan’s opener in the first half. Robbo, in fact, was also leading the team due to the absence of Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The first half was undoubtedly a tough slog for Liverpool, with their performance falling well below the expected standards. Jurgen Klopp’s half-time team talk appeared to have a transformative effect, as the Reds emerged for the second half with a renewed sense of purpose and determination.

It was the second-half performance that truly showcased Liverpool’s character and resilience. They displayed a different level of intensity and determination, making it clear that they were not willing to leave the pitch without the victory.

The crucial moment arrived in the 85th minute when Andy Robertson, not known for his prolific goal-scoring, produced a moment of brilliance. His exceptional goal was a testament to his world-class ability as a left-back. Jurgen Klopp himself couldn’t contain his admiration for Robertson’s strike and here is what he told BBC:

“Andy hasn’t scored that many goals so nice for him. He’s super consistent over the years. A top bloke, a good guy. And a world-class left-back – not every day, but often. The goal was exceptional. In the first half that would never have happened, Robbo appearing with a goal like that.”

Klopp continued to praise Robertson’s exceptional goal, highlighting how it was a reflection of the player’s quality. He acknowledged that such moments don’t happen every day but emphasized that Robertson has often shown himself to be a world-class left-back.

However, it was not just Robertson who shone in the second half. The entire team rallied together to turn the tide of the match. Harvey Elliott, in stoppage time, added to the drama with a goal that, while initially credited to him, was later noted as an own goal from Hugo Bueno due to a deflection.

The victory was a testament to Liverpool’s ability to overcome adversity and secure important results. It showcased their character, determination, and the unwavering belief instilled by Jurgen Klopp.

While the first half may have been forgettable, the second-half performance provided a glimpse of Liverpool’s true potential. It served as a reminder that this team possesses the quality and spirit required to compete at the highest level. However, leaving it for late too often can have its downsides as well. It would be nicer if the Reds put the stamp on the envelope of victory much faster to relieve the fans of some intense high-blood-pressure moments.
