“I have a thing for Nunez”- Arsenal legend names Liverpool’s ideal front three

Pundit names Liverpool’s ideal front three including Mohamed Salah

Former Arsenal defender Lee Dixon believes forward Darwin Nunez is ready to come ‘good’ for Liverpool this season and he should become a regular under Jurgen Klopp.

Speaking on  NBC Sports’ The Two Robbies podcast on YouTube, Dixon said that Nunez and January signing Cody Gakpo give Liverpool excellent attacking options alongside Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz.

“I’ve got a thing for Nunez, I think he’s going to be good. I do. I like Gakpo as well. I also like Diaz. So, Diaz, Nunez and Salah, that’s what I’d go. But all good sides, you’ve got to be able to mix it about a bit.”

The Reds are enjoying a brilliant start to the 2023/24 campaign securing back-to-back four consecutive wins after the opening day draw against Chelsea.

Liverpool Boss Jurgen Klopp is currently experimenting with his front three. Keeping Mohamed Salah constant, he has been rotating players.

Nunez had a difficult debut season after joining Liverpool last winter, struggling to find consistency. But the 24-year-old Uruguayan has shown increased composure and contribution early this campaign.

His two-goal explosion off the bench to lead Liverpool past Newcastle showed his massive potential. Though used sparingly as a starter so far, Dixon believes Nunez offers something unique for Klopp as a focal point in attack.

Nunez faces stiff competition to cement a starting role with the myriad of options Liverpool boasts upfront. Yet his physical presence, pace, and nous in the box provide the Reds with a key dimension when deployed correctly.

Liverpool signed Nunez in a club record £85m deal from Benfica. He had scored 34 times for the Portuguese side in all competitions in the 2021-22 season, showcasing what a lethal goal-scorer he can be.

Diaz, meanwhile, remains one of the finest left-wingers around in the league. His trickery and agility make him a winger we have hardly had at the club before. And then there’s Salah — a bona fide club legend and one of the most lethal goal-scorers on the planet.

Who would have thought we would boast such depth in attack after Sadio Mane, Divock Origi, Takumin Minamino and Roberto Firmino’s departures so close to each other… and to think we still have super-sub Diogo Jota in our ranks…
