Jurgen Klopp pledges loyalty to Liverpool as Germany near Julian Nagelsmann appointment
Liverpool fans can breathe a sigh of relief as Germany are apparently close to hiring Julian Nagelsmann as their new manager. Jurgen Klopp would have been one of the most obvious choices for the role.
He is good. He is German. And he knows how to build a world-class team from scratch. He has spoken about how big an honour it will be to manage Die Mannschaft one day.
But Klopp has pledged his allegiance to Liverpool and he is fully on board as the club aim to make their second world-class team under his tutelage.
Klopp told German outlet RTL:
“We are currently building Liverpool 2.0 here. We want to really attack again and not just see how long will it last? I have a duty of loyalty to Liverpool. My heart is here in Liverpool.
“You can’t just cut out the eight years. I signed a contract here and, as far as I can remember, I was not drugged or tied up and had to sign with my mouth.”
Ever since he implied that Manchester United were run like an adult Disneyland, it seemed like Klopp and Liverpool were a match made in heaven. He isn’t afforded the same riches as Manchester City or PSG.
But he has won every major trophy with and helped us to four European finals — three of them in the UEFA Champions League. His first great team had the likes of Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane, Jordan Henderson, Fabinho and Georginio Wijnaldum.
As much as it pains to say, Virgil van Dijk is 32 and Mohamed Salah is 31. But Klopp is working actively to sign younger players and ensure the Reds are set for life beyond him.
Klopp’s contract at Anfield runs until June 2026. Hopefully, we can win a few more trophies until then. It is hard to imagine the club without the German manager.

But it is something we should start preparing for in the coming months. There would be nothing better if Klopp renews his deal again, but we can’t keep counting on that.
