Alan Shearer says Liverpool star Mohamed Salah might leave in January
Alan Shearer, the legendary former striker, has weighed in on the ongoing saga surrounding Mohamed Salah and his future at Liverpool, suggesting that the Reds could be open to accepting a bid for the Egyptian superstar in the upcoming January transfer window.
During the summer transfer window, Liverpool faced significant interest in Salah, with Al-Ittihad tabling a jaw-dropping offer of £150m for the prolific forward. However, Liverpool swiftly rejected the bid, keen to retain their talismanic attacker.
Nevertheless, as the next transfer window approaches, speculation regarding Salah’s future could resurface. Shearer, offering his perspective on the matter, believes that Liverpool could sit inclined to entertain the idea of selling Salah in January if a similar monumental offer materializes.
Shearer shared his thoughts on the matter during an appearance on The Rest Is Football Podcast, asserting that Liverpool’s stance might evolve in the face of another colossal bid. He emphasized that while Liverpool resisted the summer bid due to its late timing and the unavailability of a suitable replacement, the situation could differ in the winter transfer window.
Here is what the former England international stated via The Rest Is Football Podcast :
“If you’re getting north of £150m for someone of that age… I get why it didn’t happen because they came in so late and wouldn’t have had time to get a replacement.”
“But, if they know they’re coming back in January with a ridiculous offer then they’ve got time to find a replacement and again it depends on where they are I think. But I think they’d bite at £150m in January.”
Shearer’s perspective highlights the complex nature of transfer decisions, particularly when dealing with a player of Salah’s calibre. The Egyptian has been a pivotal figure in Liverpool’s recent successes and is widely regarded as one of the finest forwards in world football.
For Liverpool, the prospect of parting ways with Salah, even for a staggering sum, would require meticulous planning to secure a suitable replacement and ensure a smooth transition.
As January approaches, the football world will be closely monitoring developments regarding Mohamed Salah’s future.
