Virgil Van Dijk “proud” of youngster Youngster Quansah’s display vs Wolves

Liverpool’s star defender Virgil van Dijk was full of praise for 20-year-old center-back prospect Jarell Quansah following his impressive Premier League display against Wolverhampton Wanderers this Saturday.

According to Journalist @DaveOCKOP, Van Dijk praised the young English centre-back in a press conference ahead of Liverpool’s upcoming Europa League clash against Austrian side LASK.

“On the weekend he was outstanding in my opinion. The amount of time he played he was outstanding. I was very proud of him.”

Despite his young age and inexperience, Quansah slotted seamlessly into Liverpool’s backline alongside van Dijk against Wolverhampton. His composure and defensive skills were on full display as he helped the Reds put on a strong display at the Molineux Stadium.

Quansah only recently made his debut for Liverpool’s senior squad following his 6-month loan spell at Bristol Rovers against Newcastle United coming on as a substitute for Joel Matip. But he has quickly made an outstanding impression.

The 20-year-old joined the Reds at the age of five and signed his first contract with the Premier League club in 2021. He had received high praise from his former manager at Bristol, Joey Barton who has predicted Quansah to become one of the top players in the future.

If Quansah continues developing at his current rapid rate, he may soon become the latest Liverpool academy product to make the breakthrough. Trent Alexander-Arnold, Curtis Jones, and others have shown Liverpool’s commitment to promoting youth.

Van Dijk was clearly delighted to mentor his teenage understudy during a dream debut. With the veteran’s guidance, Quansah’s raw talent could see him cement himself in Liverpool’s squad both now and for years to come.
