Darwin Núñez sends a message of defiance after controversial decisions cost Liverpool the game va Tottenham
Liverpool forward Darwin Núñez responded in Liverpool’s official Instagram post after the Reds lost the controversial game against Tottenham Hotspur.
The Reds lost 1-2 against Spurs at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium after a series of decisions went against the visitors. The match ended with two red cards for Liverpool players and a very late and unfortunate own goal from Joel Matip.
Núñez’s message came in light of the defiance manner in which Liverpool kept themselves in the game against all odds. The Merseyside giant were pressing for goals despite the numerical disadvantage but had to revert to a defensive strategy after the 2nd red card.
Liverpool Echo reported that the 24-year-old carried a slight knee injury since the international break, which led to his benching.
Núñez reply to Liverpool’s official Instagram post shows the atmosphere of unity and strength that has taken over the club. He wrote:
“Come on Liverpool, we are together and against everyone.”
The Uruguayan international has been in blistering form for the Reds this season. Núñez has contributed four goals and two assists in eight appearances this season in all competitions.
Curtis Jones received the first red card of the night in the 25th minute of the game after a VAR review. Jones unintentionally caught Yves Bissouma after slipping over the ball.
Refereeing decisions returned to the spotlight in the 34th minute when the officials ruled Luis Diaz‘s goal offside. PGMOL released a statement admitting that the decision was wrong and that the disallowed goal was legitimate.
Liverpool lost their second player as Diogo Jota received two yellow cards within a minute. Jota’s first yellow card came after Spurs left-back Destiny Udogie tripped himself while running.
Núñez seemed poised for a substitution, but the Reds had to change their plans when they received their second red card.
The Reds will definitely go home with their heads held high as they managed to nullify the in-form Spurs team for most of the game.
Liverpool are currently lying in the 4th position with only two points separating them from league leaders Manchester City.

Núñez showed his passion when he went to thank the travelling Kopites in Tottenham Hotspur stadium after the game. The 24-year-old has truly endeared himself with the Kopites by his passion, performance, and mentality. We believe that these are the three qualities that he shares with the whole squad as Liverpool marches forward.
