Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp pleasantly surprised by Dominik Szoboszlai’s adaptability

Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp spoke to BBC Radio 5 live to talk about the qualities of new midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai. The German conveyed his thoughts after the Reds beat Leicester City 3-1 in the Carabao Cup third round at Anfield.

Liverpool signed Szoboszlai from Bundesliga side RB Leipzig in a £60m deal during the summer transfer window.

The Hungarian international has been sensational and pivotal to the Reds’ form during the start of the season. Liverpool are currently second in the Premier League behind the league leaders Manchester City with five wins in six games.

Klopp talked about the quality and incredible stamina that the 22-year-old possesses while speaking to BBC Radio 5 live. He added:

“Dom [Szoboszlai] was a surprise with how fast he has fit in, it was pretty much from the first minute. Top-class player with a lot of quality. He never stops. He learns a lot from the game.”

The Hungarian international came on as a substitute against The Foxes during the 65th minute of the game. Szoboszlai marked his dominance by hitting a Steven Gerrard-esque long-range rocket launcher to score the second goal for Liverpool.

Szoboszlai’s performances have been sublime with the midfielder playing as if he has been the part of Liverpool for years.

The right-footed Hungarian is very technical, agile, and very good at progressing with the ball at his feet. Szoboszlai is a very accurate and creative passer and has a great physique and stamina to cover the distance.

The Hungarian international is a very hard worker off the ball and uses game intelligence to help his teammates. It is no wonder that he adapted so quickly to Klopp’s counter-pressing style of play.

The 22-year-old already has two goals to his name in eight games he has played for Liverpool so far.

Szoboszlai is already evolving into a formidable presence, drawing comparisons to Liverpool legend Gerrard. The Hungarian has a lot of traits in common with the former Reds’ Captain Fantastic. If the 22-year-old can keep the level of consistency he has shown so far, he will have the Kopites singing his song weekly very soon.
