Liverpool legend slams PGMOL on Luis Diaz offside call in Tottenham loss with explicit tweet

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher slams PGMOL for Luis Diaz offside call

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher voiced his suspicion that a wrong decision was made to disallow Luis Diaz’s first-half goal against Tottenham Hotspur, pending an official response from PGMOL (Professional Game Match Officials Limited).

The decision to rule out Diaz’s goal added to the chaos on the pitch, as Liverpool found themselves trailing Spurs less than 10 minutes after going down to 10 men following Curtis Jones’s controversial dismissal for a challenge on Yves Bissouma, and then later nine, following Diogo Jota’s red card.

Tottenham capitalized on the numerical advantage between the first and the second red and scored the opening goal through Heung-Min Son. However, Liverpool clawed their way back into the game, with Cody Gakpo equalizing deep into first-half injury time.

Returning to the contentious offside call, what made it peculiar was the unusually short time it took for VAR officials Darren England and Dan Cook to reach a decision.

In response to the disallowed goal, PGMOL released a statement acknowledging that the referee’s decision to rule out offside stood wrong but awaited an official response on the same.

Carragher, surely not one to mince words, took to Twitter to express his sentiments about the situation. Despite not being on punditry duty for Sky Sports that day, Carragher utilized colourful language to convey his frustration.

“When it takes this long for an answer from @FA_PGMOL over a contentious decision you know there’s been a f**k up!”

Carragher’s candid assessment of the situation reflects the frustration felt by many Liverpool fans and pundits alike over the contentious decision that impacted the outcome of the match. The delay in reaching a resolution only added to the confusion and controversy surrounding the incident.
