Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi sides with Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp in VAR row
Extremely similar to what Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp had to endure in their 2-1 loss to Tottenham last week, Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi has also had his fair share of issues with VAR since his time with the Seagulls.
The PGMOL sent the officials at Amex about four apology emails last term. It surely makes sense why De Zerbi is unhappy with the referring organisation. No matter what may come by, no amount of apology emails can make up for the points lost in one of the most competitive leagues in the world.
Speaking about the frustration with referees not making the best use of VAR and siding with Jurgen Klopp about his idea of a replay against Tottenham after the 2-1 loss that saw a wrong offside call after a goal, here is what De Zerbi had to say via Daily Mail:
“Klopp is always right for me and I can understand him,”
“Because I felt a lot of times in my time in England what he felt last week. I think last season we lost six, eight points for refereeing mistakes and this season we received another e-mail excuse after [Brighton’s 6-1 defeat] Villa Park. But this is the way. I think we will receive a lot of emails this year as well.”
De Zerbi, who has experienced his fair share of VAR controversies, expressed understanding rather than criticism for Klopp’s reaction.
Is VAR bad for football?
As Liverpool prepare to face Brighton in their upcoming fixture, both teams will undoubtedly hope for a smooth and error-free VAR process if it is ever needed in the game. The controversial decisions of the past should serve as a reminder of the importance of accurate officiating, and both managers will be eager to see their teams compete on a level playing field.
The clash between Liverpool and Brighton promises to be an exciting encounter, with both sides aiming for victory in their pursuit of Premier League success.
While the focus will primarily be on the action on the pitch, the spectre of VAR and its potential impact will linger in the background, leaving fans and managers alike hoping for a fair and just outcome.
