Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is wary of Liverpool from what he has seen so far

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola told reporters (h/t Liverpool Echo) about the clubs challenging him for the Premier League title. On Saturday, Arsenal, last season’s runner-up, will face Guardiola’s City in the Premier League showdown.

The Premier League table currently shows a tight cluster at the top, with City leading the pack with 18 points. Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal are second and third respectively with 17 points.

Liverpool are lying at 4th after accumulating 16 points in seven games with just two points away from the top. The Reds lost their last match to Spurs in a very controversial fashion after losing two players with red cards.

Liverpool had a goal legitimate goal disallowed which should have been the first goal of the match. The Reds kept fighting till the end but unfortunately conceded an own goal in the very last play of the game.

Guardiola talked about the potential competition for the Premier League title in which City are the favorites. He said:

“Absolutely [Arsenal are contenders], among Liverpool from what I’ve seen. But to analyze who is the title contenders, the idea is the first 10 games.”

Liverpool lost a lot of ground last season as they couldn’t even secure the Champions League spot. The Reds squad had players who were past their best years and couldn’t keep up with the counter-pressing style.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp used the summer transfer window to revamp the midfield which was most vulnerable last season. The German has claimed his new team as Liverpool 2.0 as the Reds boss seeks to challenge City once again.

The Reds boss and his Man City counterpart share a very high level of mutual respect towards each other. Both foes have faced each other many times in the last half a decade. City have outperformed Liverpool in the title race over the years, with the exception of Liverpool’s triumph in the 2019-20 season.

In terms of financial power, no one is capable of challenging the Manchester giant. Although City is facing more than 100 charges for breaching financial rules, the club continues to dominate everywhere.
