Stephen Warnock tells Liverpool to sign Khvicha Kvaratskhelia as Mohamed Salah replacement

Let’s be honest about it. Nobody has had an impact like Mohamed Salah on Liverpool Football Club since Steven Gerrard hung up his boots. The 31-year-old Egyptian plays like he’s in his prime week in and week out, and honestly, we can never get enough of that.

This season alone, Mo has six goals and four assists in ten appearances across all competitions already and he certainly doesn’t seem like slowing down one bit.

However, things can take a turn sometimes and we were this close to seeing the back of Salah earlier this summer. The Reds were smart enough to reject a monstrous bid from Saudi Arabia for the former Roma man, but come the summer of 2024, with just one year to go on Mo’s deal (Transfermarkt), Liverpool might find it tough to reject another humongous bid.

On that note, former Red Stephen Warnock tells Liverpool to keep their options open and look for alternatives should Salah decide to part ways with the club. One player Jurgen Klopp could target as per Warnock is Napoli’s Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. Here is what he told the Mirror on the same:

“I think the big problem is with Salah if you get a £175million offer from Saudi Arabia that’s difficult to say no to. I wouldn’t sell him in January but maybe next season, but only if you’ve got someone else lined up.”

“You’d have to have someone exciting lined up, the one player that springs to mind is Kvaratskhelia. He’s the one player you look at where you think he’s young and has potential and can play, but he’s a left-sided player, could he play on the right?”

Khvicha broke onto the scene last year after a wonderful season with Napoli, wherein he also faced Liverpool. If memory serves you right, you might remember how Trent Alexander-Arnold struggled to keep up with the 22-year-old Georgian’s pace.

Is Khvicha the perfect buy for Liverpool?

Only a few teams tend to play with traditional wingers in the modern game. For a long time now, we have only seen inverted wingers, and that is the case with Liverpool as well. And that makes us wonder whether or not Khvicha would be the best investment.

The Reds have an overload on the left wing with the likes of Darwin Nunez, Cody Gakpo, Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota, all capable of playing down that flank. The right is the only problem now, and if we get a right-footer on this wing, it might not be the best investment of our money keeping in mind the Reds’ style of play.

Moreover, Khvicha has struggled to emulate his form from last term this year as he has only managed a solitary goal and four assists from nine games across all competitions.

He also has a significant amount of time left on his contract with the Serie A title holders meaning that his pursuit won’t come cheap for the Reds. Anyway, it is a discussion to be had, but doubts over Kvara fitting into the Reds’ style of play are somewhat warranted.
