The curse of the international break still continues to haunt Liverpool. The latest entrant to the list of injured stars for the Merseysiders is Andy Robertson. It might take us back to at least a season or two ago to know when was the last time that the Reds had a fully fit squad post an international break.
Between the 21st and 29th of October, Liverpool play two Premier League games and have their Europa League Group stage Matchday 3 against Toulouse. Knowing that Robbo might be a doubt for all of these fixtures is already a worrisome piece of news.
While we have the likes of Kostas Tsimikas to step up in the absence of the Scotland captain, Robbo brings much more to the pitch. His relentless running up and down the flank, coupled with his leadership abilities is an addition to his top-class technical ability as a footballer.
According to Nottinghamshire Live, Robbo was forced off with a serious-looking shoulder problem when representing Scotland in their defeat to Spain on Thursday night. Goals from Alvaro Morata and Oihan Sancet saw the Spaniards secure a 2-0 result against Steve Clarke’s men.
While the actual timeline of Robbo’s recovery has not come to the fore yet, it is best if we give him maximum time for recovery, and hope that the recovery time does not too long.
Kostas is a dependable stand-in and will undoubtedly give his all in the absence of the first-choice left-back, but the Liverpool faithful eagerly await Robertson’s return to full fitness.
As the Reds navigate this challenging period, we can only hope that Robertson’s recovery proceeds smoothly and that he can return to the pitch, where his contributions are sorely missed.
In the meantime, Kostas and the rest of the squad will need to rise to the occasion, proving that the Reds remain a formidable force, even in the face of adversity.
