Liverpool’s Andy Robertson names former Manchester United striker Henrik Larsson as his idol

Liverpool defender Andy Robertson has revealed that former Manchester United loanee Henrik Larsson was his boyhood idol and the player he would most want to feature alongside.

The Swedish striker had a brief spell at Old Trafford in 2007, scoring three goals in 13 appearances while on loan from Helsingborgs.

Despite his short stint, Robertson insists Larsson was his favorite player growing up due to his exploits at Celtic.

When asked which Premier League star he’d like to play with, Andy Robertson told Premier League’s official YouTube channel: “Henrik Larsson when he played at Manchester United.”

The Liverpool full-back explained his love for the Swede was formed long before Larsson’s short United loan move.

He’s my guy, he was a huge part of why me and my brother and all my mates used to go out in the back garden and score goals and do the Larsson celebration.

Larsson netted 176 goals in 234 games across two spells at Celtic, helping establish his status as a club legend.

He earned a transfer to Barcelona in 2004 on the back of his prolific form in Scotland.

So while Larsson had a minimal impact at Old Trafford, he had already secured hero status in Robertson’s eyes.

“Growing up, he was my idol,” Robertson reiterated, despite his affiliation with Liverpool. While an unlikely pairing, the Liverpool star admits he’d relish the chance to combine with the former United loanee.

Larsson terrorized Scottish defenses for years before trying his hand in England. And Robertson still looks back fondly on copying the Swedish great’s iconic goal celebrations in his youth.

Despite their allegiances, Robertson’s boyhood affection for Larsson remains undimmed.
