Former Liverpool star Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain makes winning mentality claim at the Reds
Quite different to his experience at Arsenal, former Liverpool midfielder and current Besiktas man Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain talked about the mentality of both clubs heading into important fixtures, and how the frame of mind on Merseyside was contrasting to that at the North London club.
During his time at Liverpool, Oxlade-Chamberlain won the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, the Premier League, the FIFA Club World Cup, the FA Cup and the League Cup.
146 appearances, 18 goals and 15 assists later, the former Southampton man left the Reds as a free agent in the summer of 2023 to join Besiktas in Turkey. While there is no doubt that the player could have achieved greater heights on Merseyside, it was an ACL injury against Roma back in 2019 that meant that Ox did not return to his usual best and that injury limited his abilities.

“That was the biggest difference at Liverpool where, even in the first season (2017-18) when we were a bit of an unknown entity, there was this unbelievable complete and utter focus where there was nothing else happening but us winning the game.
“I don’t know why, but at Liverpool, the big games, we just knew we were going to win. We won FA Cups (At Arsenal) but we probably never achieved what we should have done.”
