Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk reveals pleasure at the Reds’ second goal against Everton

Following the opener in the Merseyside Derby, Liverpool were quick to double their lead as they broke from defence to attack within seconds as Mohamed Salah slotted it past Jordan Pickford to seal the result against Everton at Anfield.

The Reds dominated the game for most parts than not albeit the goal did not come soon enough for Jurgen Klopp’s men. It was only until the 75th minute that Liverpool broke the deadlock. Michael Keane’s outstretched arm and Craig Pawson coming back on from the VAR screen to point to the spot gave the Reds the penalty. Mo did what he does so effectively with a strong strike to beat Jordan Pickford.

Everton committed a lot of bodies up front in their hopes for a late equaliser in the eighth minute of added time but Alisson’s strong save denied the visitors. The Brazilian shot-stopper was quick to release the ball to Kostas Tsimikas, who stitched a pass to Dominik Szoboszlai. The Hungarian then found Darwin Nunez who started to speed past the backline and lay it off for Salah, who scored his and the Reds’ second of the night beyond a helpless Pickford.

“We have been doing it [breaking quickly] for many seasons it is a big strength with the pace. The second goal especially. It is something we enjoy and have to keep going.”
