“Yes, Liverpool are title contenders”- Pundit makes confident claim about the Reds PL title charge this season

Chris Sutton believes Liverpool are Premier League title contenders this season

Liverpool briefly went top of the Premier League standings following their win over Everton in the Merseyside Derby last weekend. While we eventually were overtaken by other sides, Jurgen Klopp’s side has done enough to convince one man that they are the real deal- Chris Sutton.

The former Premier League winner and now pundit is impressed with the Reds’ good start to the season. The Reds have secured 20 points from their opening nine games in the league. Had it not been for controversial calls at Tottenham Hotspur and individual errors at Brighton & Hove Albion, we could’ve been a lot further ahead.

Klopp’s side were far off the pace last season, finishing fifth in the league. It was the first time that we missed out on a UEFA Champions League spot in a campaign where the German was in charge of the full season.

Speaking on 5Live’s Monday Night Club via Liverpool Echo, Sutton has now claimed that the Reds are a bigger threat to Manchester City’s dominance than Arsenal who finished second last season. The Gunners have strengthened in the summer but could be in for yet more heartbreak this season.

“Yes, Liverpool are title contenders.”

Mikel Arteta’s men defeated Manchester City earlier this season but fell to a 2-2 draw at Chelsea after the international break. While one can argue that they salvaged a point after going two goals down, the trust remains that Chelsea were the better side for vast swathes of the game. While the Gunners are a formidable side, Sutton believes Liverpool are more of a legitimate threat to Pep Guardiola and Co.

“I think Liverpool will be a bigger challenger to Manchester City than Arsenal this season, I really do.”

Liverpool are slowly yet steadily building up momentum.

The 50-year-old is within his rights to hold a high opinion of us. Jurgen Klopp’s men have been the only side to push Manchester City in the last six years, losing the title by one point on two occasions while completely blowing their opponents out of the water in the 2019-20 season.

Having rebuilt his midfield, Klopp appears to have rediscovered his hunger for success. His tactical moves and intent-filled substitutions have aided his side’s fortunes more than once this season and there is every reason to believe the Reds will keep gaining more momentum as the season wears on.

Liverpool have been the one domestic side that has caused Guardiola and Co. countless sleepless nights during his stint as Manchester City manager. Jurgen Klopp and his troops are on the march again and we could have plenty to celebrate should the Reds continue their good run of form until then.
