“Robbo has had surgery” – Jurgen Klopp drops fresh Andy Robertson injury update as Liverpool prepare for Europa League clash

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp provides injury update on defender Andy Robertson

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed Andy Robertson has undergone surgery on his shoulder injury as the Reds prepare to face Toulouse in the Europa League. The Scottish ace will be a major miss for the Reds in the upcoming months.

Speaking at a press conference ahead of Thursday’s European tie as covered by Liverpool Echo, Klopp provided an update on Robertson after he sustained a shoulder problem while on international duty for Scotland.

‘Yes, Robbo has had surgery and it all went well. It all went as good as it could go so recovery starts after he wakes up.’

The left-back was forced off during Scotland’s defeat to Ireland last week and missed Liverpool’s derby win over Everton in the Merseyside derby. Jurgen Klopp delivered the positive news that Andy Robertson‘s operation was successful, which represents the first step in his recovery process.

‘I think it happened this morning, so that is it. We don’t know how long that will take but the first step is done and that is good.’

Robertson is expected to be sidelined for an extended period, with reports suggesting he could miss up to three months of action. But the surgery going smoothly offers hope he can return towards the end of that estimated timeframe.

In Robertson’s absence, Kostas Tsimikas is set to deputise at left-back as he has done already during the Scot’s previous injury lay-offs. Klopp will need increased contributions from the Greek defender with Liverpool currently facing fixture congestion.

The Reds take on Toulouse at Anfield looking to preserve their unbeaten home run in European competition stretching back to March 2022. Tsimikas will likely start as the Merseysiders aim to take control of Group E while Robertson begins his road to recovery from a successful shoulder operation.
