Liverpool forward wants to stay at the club despite interest from Barcelona

Liverpool forward Darwin Nunez wants to stay at the club, rejecting recent interest from Barcelona amid the social media drama.

Darwin Nunez prefers to stay at Liverpool instead of joining Barcelona after his social media actions caused multiple transfer rumours. Nunez blocked many engagement-driven fans’ accounts and removed pictures related to Liverpool from his Instagram after the Tottenham Hotspur victory.

The Reds beat Spurs 4-2 at Anfield in the Premier League clash on Sunday to rectify their poor form recently. Nunez and many Liverpool players faced severe criticism in the last few weeks as Liverpool suffered a sudden dip in performance.

The Reds showed complacency and poor morale in both defensive and offensive phases, costing them the Premier League title race. They also crashed out of the FA Cup and the Europa League, experiencing an anti-climatic end to a good season.

Darwin received heavy criticism for his poor composure in front of the goal and his frequent offside positioning. While a level of constructive criticism is justified, many social media accounts and media use the opportunity to attack him.

The level of hate-filled narrative dominated the social media platforms for weeks until the 24-year-old decided to take action. However, true Liverpool fans are concerned about the Uruguayan’s mindset, hoping he can differentiate between them and the incessant trolls.

Throughout this season, Darwin has played a pivotal role for the Reds, and Anfield acknowledges his contributions well. The 24-year-old has made 52 appearances in all competitions this season, contributing with 18 goals and 13 assists for Liverpool.

Fichajes reported that Darwin’s commitment to the Reds remains strong despite the recent drama on social media. Barcelona has been monitoring the situation surrounding the Uruguayan forward, but he has shown no interest in joining them at this time.

Furthermore, the Spanish club faces restricted financial means to sign Darwin during the summer, given the price Liverpool paid. Furthermore, the 24-year-old is still a part of the Reds plans despite the change in manager.
