Chelsea left-back Ian Maatsen is on Liverpool transfer radar
The transfer business for Chelsea has not looked great ever since Todd Boehly took over the club. He has sold a sizeable number of players to buy a greater number of players, but most of them have had tough times adjusting to life in West London. Amid all this, the Blues look to offload Ian Maatsen, who is on the transfer radar of Liverpool.
Liverpool have two world-class left-back options in Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas. However, the former is nursing a shoulder issue that needed surgery and is out for a considerable period of time leaving KT as our only other natural left-back option.
Amid Robbo’s injury, the Reds could probably look to strengthen that department. That is where Maatsen comes into the picture. The 21-year-old was instrumental in Burnley securing promotion during his time at the Clarets on loan.
Chelsea hopes to raise more cash in the winter window with TEAMtalk via Express claiming Maatsen goes up on the transfer market. In fact, Burnley had a £31m bid accepted for the left-back in the summer, but he decided to stay at Stamford Bridge and fight for his place. But Chelsea have made it clear that he has no future at the club with Liverpool and City showing interest in the Netherlands Under-21 international.
Maatsen to the Reds?
For the Reds though, spending an amount close to £31m for a backup player is still a day far away. Liverpool have remained tight-pocketed under FSG and while it has been frustrating at times, we have ensured we get better value for money this way.
Also, it is sensible for us to look at other players including Mason Mount and Kai Havertz who have left Chelsea over the summer and have struggled to adjust to their new teams. The Reds have consistently made calculated decisions in the transfer market, ensuring that each addition aligns with the team’s requirements and long-term goals.
While the prospect of Maatsen joining Liverpool is intriguing, the club will likely weigh the financial aspects and the player’s fit within the squad before making any decisions.
