Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp outlines areas that need improvement after win against Nottingham Forest

In what could come across as a faultless 3-0 win for Liverpool against Nottingham Forest to anybody, only someone as brainy as our manager Jurgen Klopp would look at the game from a perspective of how we could improve. In fact, most managers of top clubs think this way even in games that appear perfect to a number of supporters.

Goals from Diogo Jota, Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah saw the Reds overcome Steve Cooper’s side at home in a game where the Reds walked in as easy favourites. Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai were absolutely dominant in the middle of the park. Szobo also got two assists to boot in a wonderful performance against Forest.

Funnily enough, for a team that dominates possession more often than not, all of our goals came in transition. While it is great to see the Reds turn defence to attack in the blink of an eye, the Reds have the capacity to put games to bed much more comfortably and Jurgen Klopp’s staff could maybe try and explore that potential of our players.

In conversation with the club’s official website, the manager took the chance to speak about certain aspects of the game where the Reds could improve and here is what Klopp had to say:

“The last five minutes before half-time, all of a sudden we were a bit too deep and they just could chip the balls there. One-on-one situation… we won the situation but then it was a corner or a throw-in, which is by the way pretty much the same for Nottingham Forest, and these are the moments where we have to improve, clearly. In creative things, you always can improve. That is always possible because the boys have a lot of potential so we have to use it fully.”

Scope for improvement

Building up to these comments, Klopp also emphasised keeping control of the proceedings in games that are open and the Reds are in the lead. Often, we have seen our high line become a problem with one pass through the backline meaning the attacker/s are through on goal.

Liverpool are second to none when it comes to soaking pressure, but when those situations come up too deep, it tends to become a problem to defend.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is a master tactician.

We have excellent players who would come out on top more often than not in one-on-one situations like what happened against Forest towards the end of the first half, but according to Klopp, these are situations that are easily avoidable. It makes things less complicated than they are for Liverpool.
