Tony Cascarino cites Brentford’s Bryan Mbuemo as a potential Mohamed Salah replacement at Liverpool

Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah is the face of football in the Muslim world and it is natural that the cash-rich Saudi Pro-League clubs are keen to secure his signature. The Egyptian’s future at Anfield is unclear ahead of the 2024 summer transfer window and should he leave, there will be a massive hole in the Reds’ attack.

Former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino believes Liverpool should target Brentford’s Bryan Mbuemo if Mohamed Salah departs Anfield. It is perhaps an out-of-the-box choice as far as potential replacements are concerned.

Writing in The Times (Subscription Required), Cascarino insisted that the Reds should bag the versatile Mbuemo as soon as possible as his best years are still ahead of him.

Brentford star Bryan Mbuemo is being seen as a possible replacement for Mo Salah.

“If Mohamed Salah ever leaves Liverpool, the club should go and buy Bryan Mbeumo as his replacement.

At only 24, his best years are ahead of him and he has all the attributes to succeed at a club of Liverpool’s stature: he is versatile, durable and counterattacks with real ferocity.

He has increased his goal output, with nine in the Premier League last season and six in only ten appearances this year, including the tap-in to an empty net that wrapped up Brentford’s 2-0 win away to Chelsea.”

The former Republic of Ireland international highlighted Mbuemo’s steadily improving goal output for the Bees as evidence of his ability to produce in the final third. At 24, the Brentford ace is still to hit his peak and has already proved his credentials in the Premier League.

Cascarino makes a compelling case that the Cameroonian forward could fill the void left by Salah’s goals and relentless pressing. However, Liverpool must avoid viewing Mbuemo as a like-for-like replacement and instead empower him within their fluid system.

At 24, Mbuemo offers both long-term value and enough experience to handle the step up from Brentford’s direct style. He has started all of Brentford’s 10 games this season scoring six times and assisting twice along the way.

While Mo Salah‘s otherworldly numbers would be irreplaceable, Mbuemo profiles as an intriguing alternative with his blistering pace and clinical edge. But Jurgen Klopp would need to maximise his talents by focusing on his strengths rather than attempting to mould Mbuemo into a Salah clone.

Added competition would also push Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz, and Darwin Nunez to new heights with their places at risk. If Salah does depart, Cascarino makes a compelling case for Mbuemo as an astute signing to refresh Liverpool’s forward line.
