Chris Sutton makes Liverpool claim ahead of Brentford game

Coming into the home game against Brentford in the Premier League, Liverpool are on the back of a tough loss against Toulouse away from home. Amid the VAR controversy, Jurgen Klopp called for the Reds to improve their performance, and we can assume that the players had an earful from the German tactician.

The Bees, spearheaded by their Danish manager Thomas Frank, have blown hot and cold this season, and have just returned to form. They have beaten Burnley, Chelsea and West Ham, and pretty comfortably. They have been solid defensively and it will surely prove to be a tough game for the Reds, who have also not been at their best.

Brentford are a side that do not like to sit back and will in all likelihood try and take the game by the scruff of the neck. Liverpool will surely need to ensure that their high line is perfect. With the uncertainty over first-choice captain Virgil van Dijk’s selection, the Reds could see Ibrahima Konate partner up with Joe Gomez or Joel Matip. Jarell Quansah could potentially earn some minutes as well.

The same fixture last season ended with Mohamed Salah’s early goal proving to be the difference between the sides. While we hope for a similar outcome this season, the Reds’ goal scoring prowess with a creative midfield means that we should expect more than just a solitary goal. However, as earlier mentioned, the Bees will prove to be a tough game. Here is what BBC pundit Chris Sutton had to say, giving his verdict on the game while predicting a 3-1 win for the Reds:

“This isn’t an easy one to call. I was wrong about Liverpool against Luton last time out, but Brentford’s return to form is the main reason I don’t think this one will just be a straightforward home win.”

After a bit of a blip, the Bees are back to being the stubborn side we know they are, and they carry a threat too.”

But Liverpool really have to win this game to keep up with Manchester City in the title race – I don’t want City to just run away with the title – and their home form has been very strong so far.”

Tough Game for the Reds

Liverpool are currently fourth in the points chart with North London clubs Arsenal and Tottenham separating the Reds from league leaders Manchester City. The Reds trail Pep Guardiola’s side by three points. They play on the same day as the Reds, away to Chelsea.

Sutton’s comments are bang on, as predicting this game can be the toughest thing one could do. Away from home last year, we lost to them 3-1. Speaking of the title race as well, the Reds not only have to tackle Manchester City, but we have to ensure that Arsenal also do not get any closer while keeping Tottenham at bay as well. We were close to securing a famous result against Spurs but for the referees.

Hopefully, Mohamed Salah keeps up his positive form in the Premier League and hands the Reds a result we can be proud of.

The key to winning this game is keeping control of possession in the middle of the park, and not shying away from 50-50 challenges. We were guilty of all of those in the game against Toulouse, and Jurgen Klopp would be keen that his squad
