Arthur Melo deserved more game time at Liverpool as per his agent
In the realm of football transfers, narratives often twist with speculation and, occasionally, some controversy. The recent comments from Federico Pastorello, agent of Arthur Melo, have stirred the pot concerning the Brazilian midfielder’s past stint at Liverpool and his current loan spell with Fiorentina.
Arthur Melo arrived at Liverpool on deadline day in the summer transfer window last season, carrying with him a reputation as a talented midfielder with the potential to make an impact. However, fate had a different script for the Brazilian, as injury issues disrupted his tenure at Anfield, limiting him to a mere 13 minutes of action in a challenging 4-1 loss to Napoli.
The claim made by Pastorello suggests that Arthur deserved more playing time at Liverpool, especially considering the difficulties he faced during his recovery. This assertion, however, should remain met with scepticism and even deemed as somewhat audacious.
Anyway, here is what his agent told TuttoMercatoWeb about Arthur ‘deserving’ more game time at Liverpool [Italian translated to English]:
“Fiorentina had the courage to listen to my insistent invitation to think of this player, because coming from such a difficult season as the one at Liverpool, with an injury that lasted longer than expected and a difficult recovery, although in my opinion he deserved to play a little more, it was not easy to take him.”
While it is true that injuries can be a stumbling block for any player, the assertion that Arthur deserved more opportunities at Liverpool doesn’t align with the context of his brief stint.
Did he deserve more game time on Merseyside?
The Reds would undoubtedly have provided Arthur with ample chances had he demonstrated the required form and fitness. However, the injury setback, combined with the emergence of young midfielder Stefan Bajcetic, altered the dynamics in Liverpool’s midfield.
Bajcetic’s impressive performances, coupled with the relentless demands of top-tier football, dictated the selection process. Manager Jurgen Klopp, renowned for nurturing young talent, provided opportunities based on merit, not just reputation. This saw Bajcetic gradually become a regular feature in the squad, earning his stripes through consistent displays on the pitch. However, such is our reality that Bajcetic also soon saw himself out due to a long-term injury earlier this year and is yet to feature this season.
Liverpool’s commitment to player development is evident, and opportunities are earned through performance and fitness rather than entitlement.

As Arthur Melo continues his footballing journey with Fiorentina, it remains to be seen how his career unfolds.
