The future of PSG’s French superstar Kylian Mbappe continues to be a subject of intense speculation as the January transfer window looms large.
Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, and obviously, Real Madrid have all been mentioned as potential destinations for the former Monaco man, who is easily among the planet’s best and most earning footballers.
However, Mbappe remains guarded about his future, emphasising his desire to shift the focus to matters on the pitch rather than off it.
In a recent interview with French publication Telefoot, as quoted by GFNF via football.london, Mbappe chose not to delve into the intricacies of his transfer situation. Here is what he had to say:
“It’s something I don’t want to talk about,”
“Especially since I already did it in June and it took up a big part of the international break. I want us to talk more about the national team, rather than me talking about something that will be resolved one day, so there will be time to talk about that.”
For Liverpool, the prospect of securing Mbappe’s services poses a formidable challenge. The French forward’s wage demands, coupled with the financial dynamics of the transfer market, could make any potential deal a complex undertaking. The 24-year-old’s contract with PSG expires in 2024 (Transfermarkt).
And on top of that, the Reds boast a formidable attacking lineup, led by the likes of Mohamed Salah, Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo. While Mbappe would bring a lot to the table, he is surely not worth spending so much money, especially at a time when Liverpool do not necessarily need attacking reinforcements.
With a well-balanced and potent attacking unit, the Reds may prioritize reinforcing other areas of the squad, such as the midfield during the upcoming transfer window.
While the allure of Mbappe is undeniable, Liverpool’s focus could and should remain directed towards maintaining squad harmony, bolstering key positions, and ensuring long-term sustainability.
The saga surrounding Mbappe’s future will undoubtedly continue to unfold, but whether Liverpool actively pursue the French sensation remains uncertain, given the current dynamics within the squad and the challenges associated with such a high-profile transfer. Highly unlikely, let’s leave it at that.
