Erling Haaland’s 50th Premier League was indeed a special personal milestone but his team took nothing away from the game as Trent Alexander-Arnold’s strike meant things ended in a 1-1 draw between Manchester City and Liverpool on Saturday night at the Etihad Stadium.

At the end of the game, it appeared that Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola got into an altercation with Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez who started the game for the Reds and came off in the 85th minute.

Guardiola was visibly unhappy with his side dropping points and probably had a few words to say about the same when he met Darwin after the full-time whistle. The Uruguayan seemed to have misapprehended Pep’s comments and they both were at the core of a small verbal argument before Jurgen Klopp pulled Nunez aside.

The manager’s terse response indicated an attempt to diffuse the significance of the exchange, emphasizing that it was not a major incident.

Jurgen Klopp, recognising the potential for tension, intervened by pulling Nunez aside during the exchange. Klopp’s intervention served to mitigate any escalation and redirect the focus back to the pitch even though it was already FT.

While the draw ensured a share of the points on the scoreboard, the post-match altercation between Guardiola and Nunez added a touch of drama to an already intense encounter.
