Liverpool left-back Kostas Tsimikas talks about how he adapted to life at the club
Kostas Tsimikas has opened up about the challenges he faced while adapting to life at Anfield, acknowledging that it took him time to settle in. However, with an extended run in the side, the Scouser Greek remains determined to make the most of his opportunity and secure his place in the starting XI.
The Greek defender sees himself thrust into the spotlight following Andy Robertson’s injury, with the Scottish left-back expected to sit out until the start of the new year due to a dislocated shoulder. Tsimikas has seized the chance, starting in seven of Liverpool’s recent matches and showcasing his capabilities on the field.
Both Tsimikas and Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp have acknowledged that the player faced challenges in finding his form initially after joining the starting lineup. However, recent performances, including two assists against Brentford and an impressive display against Manchester City, indicate that Tsimikas is growing more comfortable and effective in his role.
Speaking to ECHO on initially adjusting to the ‘Andy Robertson role’ at Liverpool, here is what Tsimikas had to say:
“For me, it is something very, very big to play for this club and I will try to give my best, always. It was hard when I first came here to play the football that Robbo played.”
“You need time to adapt, I also needed time to adapt. The club believed in me, even when I didn’t play too much.”
The 27-year-old emphasized the significance of representing Liverpool and expressed his commitment to giving his best whenever he steps onto the field.
Tsimi for the Reds
Despite initial challenges, Tsimikas acknowledged the belief the club had in him, even during periods when he wasn’t in the starting lineup. Now, with Robertson’s absence, Tsimikas is determined to repay that faith and establish himself as a reliable option for Klopp.
Playing for a club of Liverpool’s stature comes with its own set of pressures and expectations, especially when stepping into the shoes of a key player like Robertson. Tsimikas’ gradual adaptation and improved performances indicate a positive trajectory for the left-back who now has 73 appearances for the Reds across all competitions.
As Liverpool navigate a congested fixture schedule, Tsimikas will play a crucial role in Klopp’s plans, providing depth and quality to the squad.
