“Going in the right direction”- Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp gives Diogo Jota and Alisson update

Klopp offers promising but cautious updates on Jota and Alisson injuries

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp provided mildly encouraging but non-committal updates on the injury recoveries of forward Diogo Jota and goalkeeper Alisson Becker on Tuesday.

Speaking ahead of Liverpool’s clash away to Sheffield United in a press conference covered by Liverpoolecho, Klopp stated Jota is “going in the right direction” in his rehab while confirming Alisson is “closer” to a first-team return.

“[Jota} was running yesterday, outside. Everything is going in the right direction but he is not in team training.

Alisson is closer but will not be involved tomorrow.”

Klopp stopped well short of projecting a firm team training or match return date for the Portugal international.

Klopp applied similarly cautious optimism regarding Alisson’s situation, conceding the Brazilian is “closer” than Jota to resuming full sessions but will remain absent for now.

Considering Liverpool’s crushing injury curse this term, Klopp’s apprehension about pairing progress with timeframes is understandable after previous setback blows.

But with forward and defensive reinforcements still needed, even slight glimmers regarding Jota and Alisson will fuel hopes two crucial figures could help ease the glut soon.

Klopp will petrify supporters, however, if he applies the same ominous outlook to an update on Joel Matip’s concerning knee issue suffered versus Fulham.

While Matip’s problem appears more severe, in Jota and Alisson there remains grounds for lingering optimism if recent momentum persists.
