Mid-season boost for Liverpool as 32-year-old ace inches closer to reinforcing the senior squad

Thiago Alcantara’s impending return from injury promises to boost the senior team squad at Liverpool

Thiago Alcantara’s expected return to the first-team presents Liverpool with a massive injury boost. The Spaniard suffered a hip injury in April and has been out of action ever since.

The 32-year-old has missed the current season so far as the Kopites awaited any positive news about the player. The dazzling playmaker would need time to reintegrate back into the newly revamped Liverpool midfield with few old faces remaining.

The Reds are currently on the top of the Premier League table with one point separating them from second-placed Arsenal. Meanwhile, Aston Villa and Manchester City are sitting in third and fourth place respectively but too close for comfort.

Liverpool needs to maintain a highly consistent form during the congested fixture period in December and January. Thiago’s return is like a Christmas present as the Reds would require his service as squads rely on rotation.

The 32-year-old posted an update on his Instagram account (h/t Liverpool Echo), teasing a return to action after successfully recovering. However, the estimated time of return to the first-team action is currently unknown but it will hopefully be soon.

Liverpool have deployed Alexis Mac Allister in the number six role for most of the games this season. The Argentine has done a fantastic job in the position but would prefer playing further ahead.

Meanwhile, the Reds have been utilizing Wataru Endo as a rotational option, benefiting from his services. Endo has done well in a short period but he has struggled with the pace of the Premier League.

Furthermore, Trent Alexander-Arnold has produced some special performances from the number six role, using his playmaking abilities to the fullest. However, due to a shortage of options for the right-back position, the Reds are currently limiting Trent to that role.

Thiago‘s return is particularly welcome, considering the impending absence of Mohamed Salah due to AFCON next year for the Reds. The loss of the star attacker can drastically shift the tactics of Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp. The Liverpool boss would need his experienced players during the time as the Reds push for every competition.
